The engineering Drawing lab helps and guides the students to learn how the technical drawings can be drawn by different methods.
It introduces the students to a specific language of engineers which is the graphical language. It is universally accepted and used by engineers to develop and record their ideas and express them to others for execution.
The Engineering Drawing lab will help the students in many ways from drawing images, describing the shape, size, and colour and finally constructing any engineering object. It teaches them some different skills such as ability to read and prepare engineering drawings, ability to make free - hand sketching of objects, Power to imagine, analyses and communicate, and capacity to understand.
Thermodynamics is the branch of physical science that deals with the relations between heat and other forms of energy (such as mechanical, electrical, or chemical energy), and, by extension, of the relationships between all forms of energy. Thermodynamics lab courses often include laboratory components. Traditionally these are demonstration labs where students collect and analyze data from a preconfigured experimental apparatus.
The lab focusses on the concepts of Thermodynamics and investigate the parameters by using pressure gauges for heat transfer analysis and study of Boiler efficiency.
It also includes the study of 2 stroke and 4 stroke engine models.
Materials science is a fascinating area of research that is often at the cutting edge of science and engineering. It involves both developing of new materials and improving on existing ones, and has important applications both for improving daily life and for advancing other fields of research. This lab focusses on testing of the materials. It provides a vision to produce new materials according to the need of the era.
The goal of this lab is to illuminate the issues and important areas of concern within the field of materials. It strengthens the areas of –
• Learning: The science of materials reveals the relationship between structure and properties.
• Designing: The engineering of materials utilizes the known relationship between structure and properties for the purposes of designing a material having a specific set of properties. You can view Creep and Tensile experiments.
Heat Transfer laboratory provides fundamental and industrial knowledge about modes of heat transfer, like conduction, convection and radiation, and their application.
Heat Transfer Lab consists of the following equipment’s. Pin Fin Apparatus. This setup is designed to study the heat transfer in a pin fin. Finding average heat transfer coefficient loosing heat by natural convection and radiation only.
This emissivity set up consists of two circular aluminium plates. This experimental set up designed in such a way that under steady state conditions the heat dissipated by conduction and convection in the same for the two plates.
The natural convection setup consists of a brass tube fitted in a rectangular duct in a vertical fashion. To determine average heat transfer coefficient for a vertical tube losing heat by natural convection.
Critical heat flux set up is designed to study the pool boiling phenomenon up to critical heat flux point. To observe variation of critical heat flux with bulk temperature of the fluid.
The Objective of this laboratory is to understand the key concept related to fluid kinematics and dynamics and how they are related to and applied to everyday life.
This laboratory explain the concept related to Bernoulli’s Equations, principal of water hammer, application of Reynold’s Number, Losses in the pipe when fluid flow in it, operations involve in turbineand pump etc. In the laboratory we determine the fluid flow parameters such as velocity and discharge.
The lab focusses on determining the pressure difference between two pipe, speed and power obtained.
The students get exposure to different conventional manufacturing processes using Lathe machine, Drilling machine, Shaper machine, Milling machine and Grinding Machine Tools for different machining processes. Apart from the above,we have Gas welding, Arc welding and Resistance welding facilities for different welding processes.
The lab is equipped with different measuring tools to understand and apply measurement process.
The lab is equipped with a CNC machine and it enables the students to understand the fundamentals of Automation and its application areas.
The Laboratory course is intended to give the students, experimental knowledge of CNC machine. Drilling and milling operation is done by the machine as it is a CNC XL MILL machine having X, Y & Z coordinates.
In Computer Aided Machine Drawing lab, our students can create visual concepts, using computer software or by hand, to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, and captivate consumers. They develop the overall layout and production design for various applications.
At the design stage, both freehand and mechanical drawings serve the functions of inspiring and guiding the designer and of communicating among the designer, collaborators, production department, and marketing or management personnel. At this stage, exact mechanical drawings can clarify, confirm, or disqualify a scheme that looked promising in a freehand sketch. Actually, both the sketch and the exact mechanical drawing are essential parts of the process of designing, and both belong to the field of drafting. After the basic design has been established, drafting skills aid in the development and transmission of the wealth of data necessary for the production and assembly of the parts.
Thousands of drawings may be needed to convey all of the requirements of the finished product from the designers to the fabricators.
This lab helps to provide the proper guidance to students to make accurate and precise drawings using CAD software.
The lab is well-equipped and enables students to understand the fundamentals of Automotive Engineering which includes basic structure, body style, power plant and wheel & tyre assembly etc.
The Laboratory course is intended to give the students, experimental knowledge on the performance and testing of the vehicles. Perform testing is done using dynamometers.
It also covers the constructional details, working principles and operation of the following Automotive Engine Systems & Sub Systems ,Fuels supply systems,Cluthes, Transmission system, Automotive drive lines& differential, Suspension system, Steering system,Tyres& Wheels, Braking system and emission & pollution control system etc.
Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (RAC) Laboratory has almost all comprehensive experimental set ups catering to the requirements of curriculum for Vth semester mechanical engineering students.
It is equipped with the following set ups
• Computerised refrigeration cycle test rig: It is used to determine the C.O.P., draw P-H and T-S diagrams for the vapour compression refrigeration system.
• Computerised air conditioning cycle test rig: It is used to analyse the humidification, heating, cooling and dehumidification processes and plot them on Psychrometric charts.
• Experimental cooling tower test rig: It is used to find the performance parameters of the cooling tower
In CAD lab students learn to use the computers to create, modify, do analysis, and optimization of a design.
CAD may be used to design curves and figures in two-dimensional (2D) space; or curves, surfaces, and solids in three-dimensional (3D) space.
CAD is used to accomplish preliminary design and layouts, design details and calculations, creating 3-D models, creating and releasing drawings, as well as interfacing with analysis, marketing, manufacturing, and end-user personnel.
CAD lab has the latest computer system with 2D and 3D software installed.
The machine design lab consists of various design procedures using C programs and also the modelling of various components, manually it is equipped with many computers having different software, and it can be used for component design.
In the lab the student learns how to obtain different design parameters using C program and can result in various outcome as per the requirement .
Lab also provides an insight to the coding language.
