About the Department


Civil Engineering is rightly considered the most versatile amongst all engineering branches. It is the branch with a rich miscellany of many streams beginning from Geotechnical Sciences to Structural Engineering, from Environmental Sciences to Hydraulics, and from Construction to Hydrology. Civil Engineering can be considered as the largest core engineering branch in terms of its scope and application. The CE department's main endeavour is to give exposure to budding civil engineers with various innovations in the field of construction engineering. Subjects taught in CE programme includes Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Hydrology, Geographic Information System (GIS) and Global Positioning System, Design of Structures, Environmental Engineering, Solid Mechanics, and Transportation Engineering. The department uses modern softwares like Autocad, Stadpro, MS Project, and Primavera. The students of the department are working on various welfare oriented projects on water supply, sewage treatment plant, culvert design, and bridge studies. The CE department has also started M.Tech. programmes in Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering from session 2013-14 which are affiliated to AKTU.

Prof. (Dr.) Atul Kant Piyoosh has completed the High school (1989) and Intermediate (1991) in the 1st Div from Govt. Jubilee Inter College, Lucknow. He was graduated with B. Tech. degree in Civil Engg. (1st Div) from KNIT Sultanpur (1993-1997). He has completed M. Tech. in Civil Engg. with specialization in Remote Sensing and Photogrammetric Engg. (1999-2001) and Ph. D. in the domain of Geomatics Engg. (2013-2017), both from Dept. of Civil Engg., IIT Roorkee. He has experience of 24+ years in Industry, Research and Academia. He has handled many quality projects and served several senior management positions. He has worked at KIET Group of Institutions, Delhi – NCR, Ghaziabad in various capacities such as HOD – CE and Associate Dean – OBE. He has been entrusted by Dr. APJ AKTU U. P., Lucknow with the responsibility of the Nodal Officer for Centre Code 029 and Project Examiner for B. Tech and M. Tech. students. He has10 Publications (6 SCI/SCIE papers, 1 ESCI paper, 1 Conference paper, 1 Book Chapter and one Patent). He is reviewer of journals “IEEE Transaction on Geoscience and Remote Sensing” and “Geocarto International”. He is presently guiding Ph. D scholars of TMU, Moradabad. He has trained students & faculty members of several institutes on various aspects of Outcome Based Education (OBE). He has delivered invited expert talks at many reputed institutions such as NIT Hamirpur, Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, GL Bajaj Institute of Technology & Management, Teerthankar Mahaveer University, Mandsaur University etc. He has organized many technical and extra-curricular activities, such as National Conference, Workshops, National Cultural Fest, National Technical Fest etc. He has been the member of IQAC and, in addition, he has contributed for development of e-Contents as Chairman, Quality Assurance Committee.

She is a Chartered Engineer with four years of teaching experience in architecture and civil engineering. Her memberships in esteemed organizations such as the Institution of Engineers, Indian Society for Technical Education, and Indian Water Resources Society reflect her active engagement in professional communities. Holding a certificate in career coaching/counseling, she has worked in diverse roles including Assistant Professor, Subject Matter Expert, and Quality Analyst for Textbook answers. Actively participating in professional development, she has attended 12 seminars, 2 conferences, 14 Faculty Development Programs (FDPs), and 11 workshops/Short Term Training Programs (STTPs). With a focus on research, she has published three papers in international journals and conferences, highlighting her contributions to advancing knowledge. He holds a B.Tech. degree in Civil Engineering from IEC College of Engineering and Technology, Greater Noida [UPTU] (2008-12), followed by an M.Tech in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Geotechnical Engineering (2013-15) and a Ph.D. in the domain of Soil-Structure Interaction (SSI) (2016-2023), both obtained from the Department of Civil Engineering at MNNIT Allahabad, Prayagraj. With a total of nine publications, including one SCOPUS Index Journal paper, one journal paper, five international conference papers, one national conference paper, and one book chapter SCOPUS indexing, he has demonstrated a significant contribution to the academic and research domains. A member of the Indian Geotechnical Society, his primary areas of interest encompass Soil Mechanics, Soil Dynamics, Finite Element Method (FEM), and Structural Dynamics.

Currently, He serves as an Assistant Professor in the Civil Engineering Department at Shri Ramswaroop College of Engineering and Management, Lucknow. He also holds the position of Innovation Ambassador. He holds a Master's degree (M.Tech.) in Environmental Engineering from the Institute of Engineering Technology, Lucknow, where he achieved an outstanding CGPA of 9.53. He has recorded about 40 video lectures for AKTU Digital Education, which were subsequently broadcasted on the Swayam Prabha platform, contributing to his extensive profile in the field of online education.
He also contributed as a Mentor and Institute Nodal Officer in the Internship offered by the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, Government of India, and implemented by AICTE from 1st July 2022 to 5th August 2022. His commendable contribution involved formulating a rejuvenation and reimagination strategy for Talbehat Fort - Two Masonry Wells, Uttar Pradesh. His areas of research interest are Air Pollution Control and Modelling, Solid waste Management. He is an avid researcher with a substantial list of publications in renowned journals and conferences. Geo-Tech Lab


After a successful completion of the Geotechnical lab course, the students will be able to :

i. Draw the particle size distribution curve and to find the particle size

ii. To find the maximum dry density and optimum moisture content of soil sample.

iii. To find the shear strength and safe bearing capacity of the soil.

iv. To find the consistency limits (liquid limit, plastic limit, shrinkage limit and plasticity index) of the soil.

Transportation Lab


After a successful completion of the Transportation lab course, the students will be able to :

i. Identify engineering properties of aggregate i.e. crushing strength impact strength and abrasion strength.

ii. Indentify the grade & properties of bitumen.

iii. Find out peak hour traffic & peak time for a given location on the road.

iv. Calculate design speed, maximum speed & minimum speed limits of a location through spot speed.

Building Material and Construction Lab


After successful completion of building material and construction lab students will be able to:

i. Identify various building materials and to understand their basic properties.

ii. Understand the use of non-conventional civil engineering materials.

iii. Study suitable type of flooring and roofing in the construction process.

iv. Characterize the concept of plastering, pointing and various other building services.

v. Exemplify the various fire protection, sound and thermal insulation techniques, maintenance and repair of buildings.

Environmental Engineering Lab


After successful completion of Environmental Engineering Lab students will be able to:

i. Identify turbidity, conductivity, and values of pH, alkalinity, acidity and hardness.

ii. Measure SPM and PM10 with high volume sampler, sound level with sound level meter.

iii. Identify total suspended and dissolved solids, BOD, COD and kjeldahl nitrogen.

iv. Identify fluoride, chlorides, residual chlorine and MPN (most probable number) of coli forms.

Hydraulic and Hydraulic machines Lab


This course offers basic knowledge on, fluid dynamics and hydraulic machines. The objective of this course is to enable the student to understand laws of fluid mechanics and evaluate types of flow, velocity and losses in jump for various fluid flows and performance parameters for hydraulic machinery.

The objective of this Lab is to investigate head loss due to friction in a pipe, impact of jet and to determine the associated friction factor under a range of flow rates and flow regimes, i.e. laminar, transitional, and turbulent.

i. The student will be able to apply general governing equations for various fluid flows and apply

ii. Verify the of Bernoulli’s Theorem

iii. To study the transition from laminar to turbulent flow and to determine the lower critical Reynolds number.

iv. To study the velocity distribution in a pipe and also to compute the discharge by integrating the velocity profile.

SURVEYING & GEOMATICS


After successful completion of Surveying & Geomatics Lab student will be able to :--

i. Describe the function of surveying and work with survey instruments, take observations, and Prepare plan, profile, and cross-section and perform calculations.

ii. Calculate, design and layout horizontal and vertical curves.

iii. Operate a total station and GPS to measure distance, angles, and to calculate differences in Elevation. Reduce data for application in a geographic information system.

iv. Relate and apply principles of photogrammetry for surveying.

v. Apply principles of Remote Sensing and Digital Image Processing for Civil Engineering Problems.

After successful completion of CAD Lab student will be able to :
