About the Library

SRMGPC has a well-equipped Wi-Fi enabled central library, 02 branch libraries, 13 departmental libraries and 02 hostel libraries. These libraries collectively support the teaching and research programmes of the college. All students and employees of the institute are members of this library system, and can freely avail all the services and facilities.

Subjects Coverage

The library has a collection of 73,000 volumes. The collection includes books on Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Professional Communication, Management, and Computer Applications besides many volumes on general interest. It includes more than 120 print and 8000 online national/ international journals.

Library Timings

The Library is open on all working days from Monday to Friday. The timings are as under -

  • Working Hours    9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
  • Circulation    9:15 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  • Reprography    9:15 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  • Audio-Visual Section    9:15 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
  • Reference Section    9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Library Automation

The library has automated system in place. It uses LibSys - 4, which is an integrated multi-user library management system supporting all in-house operations of the library with Barcode and Biometrics Technology. The software enhances the efficiency of various functions such as circulation, cataloguing, acquisition, and serial controls. More than 72,000 bibliographic records of books and other resources available in the library can be accessed through the WebOpac, which is being used for recommendation of books and other resources by the faculty members. Database of books available in the library is updated frequently.

Library Services

Circulation Service

An automated circulation system has been implemented using LibSys 4. Users are provided with barcode ID cards. Loan eligibility/number of loans for each member is determined by membership category (by item type and collection). General books can be borrowed out at the circulation counter. Borrowing privileges for the various categories of user are as follows:

Book Reservation

The reservation service can be availed through WebOPAC from anywhere in the college campus. Reading material is kept reserved for 3 days from the date of return.

Book Bank

Under ‘Book Bank Scheme’, any student can choose the books from the list of the book bank for each course. Books are issued to the student after payment of 50% cost of the book, for the whole semester. The students are required to return the books to library, within 03 days of the end of current semester examination. Students get a refund of 50% of the amount deposited.

Reference Section

The Central Library maintains a separate reference section consisting of:

  • Encyclopaedias
  • Handbooks
  • Dictionaries
  • Expensive Books
  • Foreign Edition Books

For any information or assistance, patrons may contact the reference desk. Staff is always available in the reference section/reading section to suggest resources of information and to assist in locating the required resources. Two copies of each title available in issue section are kept in ‘Not for Issue/Reserved Section’ for reference by the users within the library only. These books can be issued overnight only in special cases. The reference section also has the bound volumes of old journals. WiFi connectivity is available in the reference section.

E-Reference Service

CDs for books, Question Papers (Internal/ External), Quizzes, Syllabus, NPTEL Video lectures, Placement Papers and scanned copy of notes provided by the concerned faculty members of every subject can be accessed through WebOPAC over LAN.

Reprographic Service

In addition to lending services, the library provides reference and reprographic services. Subject to copyright regulations, library material can be photocopied on payment basis. The library offers black & white photocopying and printing facility.

Audio-Visual Section

AV Section in Central Library is a place where users can get all the information through PCs and high speed Internet connection. In the section there are ten terminals for access resources / e- resources. Users can browse on the digital library systems from anywhere in the campus through WebOPAC. A catalogue of CD’s /DVD’s and audio cassettes is also available for their reference.

Electronic Databases & Online Journals

The following e-resources are being subscribed by the college -

DELNET offers access to nearly 1.75 crore records of books, periodicals, articles, thesis dissertations and other databases. Besides this, it also provides Inter library Loan & Document Delivery Services to all its member libraries.

National Digital Library As per AICTE, Central Library has registered its 4485 users (students and faculty members) to National Digital Library. It provides support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular formats and facilitates researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. The resources available under NDL network are:

South Asia Archive (SAA) The college has access to the resources of South Asia Archive (SAA) through E-ShodhSindhu. The South Asia Archive is as a specialist digital platform delivering global electronic access to culturally and historically significant literary material produced from within - and about - the Indian subcontinent.

IIM Ahmedabad Cases

A collection of 269 cases and other substantial teaching /study material from IIM, Ahmedabad is available to furnish analytical and practical learning for management students and teaching fraternity.

Scholars’ Study Room:

A special reading room is available in Central Library that provides a secluded and quiet study and research space reserved only for the use of faculty members of the college.

Departmental Libraries

These libraries act as extension counters of the Central Library. Faculty can prepare for the class by getting books issued from departmental library and return it after referring to the same. The need for bringing own books daily or going to library daily for preparation of lecture is avoided. Each of these departments houses a library having collection of books, project reports pertinent to the subject of courses being run by the department. Hostel Library

There are two hostel libraries. Each of these libraries houses a collection of general books, personality development books, competitive exam books, newspaper and magazines. Hostel library provides more accessible and personalized services for hostellers. This facility is very beneficial for them, as they can borrow and read the books from their respective library after college hours and during college holidays. Hostel library exhibits greater convenience and it saves students’ time. These books are issued in addition to those from central library. The same rules apply to the hostel library as are applicable for the central library.

Institutional Membership

Developing Library Network (DELNET)

DELNET has been in operation since January 1988 and was registered as a society in 1992. DELNET has been established with the prime objective of promoting resource sharing among the libraries through the development of a network of libraries. It aims to collect, store, and disseminate information besides offering computerized services to users, to coordinate efforts for suitable collection development and also to reduce unnecessary duplication wherever possible.
SRMGPC Library System is having its annual membership since 2012 and is renewed every year. The membership provides for borrowing the books, journals and articles etc. from its member libraries on resources sharing basis. Members of SRMGPC Central Library can utilize this facility through the library. The resources available under DELNET network are:
